Parent/billet weekend opens with loss to Terriers

The Hawks started their annual parent/billet weekend with a thud Friday falling flat in a 5-2 loss to the Yorkton Terriers at the ‘Cage.’

Too many times this year Nipawin hasn’t been able to follow wins with another and their record now sits at 8-10-0-1, which aligns with the team’s up-and-down results this season.

Ronan Buckberger and Landan Pappas scored in Friday’s loss to Yorkton, the first of five meetings between the two SJHL clubs this season.

Damon Cunningham made 25 stops in the loss, the Hawks killed all five Terrier power-plays, but gave up two shorthanded goals. They have now given up six goals while up a man.

Next up is the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday to cap the weekend.

All the billet families will be honoured beginning at 6:40 p.m., faceoff is 7 p.m.

The Hawks first annual Calcutta will take place after the game.
