Hawks claw back to down Mustangs

The Hawks looked down-and-out in the second half of Saturday’s home game versus Melfort, but a late period fight where Luke Chase got the better of Hayden Prosofsky, ignited a packed Centennial Arena leading to a comeback 4-3 overtime win.

Down 3-1 with just eight minutes to play in the third, Eric Hoiness and Evan Forrest scored in the third to force overtime, and Braxton Buckberger ended the game in the first minute of the extra period, he also scored the games opening goal shorthanded. The 20-year-old Saskatoon product now sits third in SJHL scoring.

Damon Cunningham made 29 saves in the win for the Hawks.

Next up for Nipawin is the SJHL Showcase in Warman. The Hawks face Notre Dame on Nov. 15 and Yorkton on Nov. 16.

Hear from Buckberger after his three point game and the win.
