Two Hawks were among the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Player of the Week honourees named on Monday.
Veteran forward Braxton Buckberger was named the Forward of the Week for his efforts in Nipawin’s three games last week. The Saskatoon product scored two goals including the overtime winner in a comeback win over Melfort on Saturday, he also added two assists during the week where the Hawks won two of three games.
This is Buckberger’s second honour of the year. He now sits sixth in SJHL scoring with eight goals and 16 assists.
Landon Pappas was also named a weekly award winner thanks to the Airdrie, Alta. natives one goal and four assists during the week. He was named the Rookie of the Week, that’s the 18-year-olds first recognition of his SJHL career.
Pappas has a pair of goals and nine assists this season, he is sixth in SJHL rookie defensemen scoring.
The Hawks will take on Notre Dame at the Showcase on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
