Hawks fall to Mustangs for first time this season

The Hawks fell 4-1 to Melfort Saturday closing the 2023 portion of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season Saturday at the ‘Cage.’

Braxton Buckberger, 20, scored his 13th goal of the year on the power-play during the game, but Melfort goaltender James Venne led the way for the visitors making 38 saves in the win.

Damon Cunningham stopped 26 of 29 in the loss.

The Hawks are now 15-15-0-2 on the year, and will sit in fifth place gong into the Christmas break.

The team returns to action Jan. 3 at the Centennial Arena against the Kindersley Klippers.
