Hawks fall in Flin Flon; home to Melville Friday

Back on home ice, for what could be the biggest game of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, the Hawks host Melville Friday at the ‘Cage.’

Nipawin fell 4-1 to Flin Flon on Wednesday in the rescheduled showdown postponed on Jan. 5.

Braeden Jockims scored the Hawks lone goal in their ninth straight loss to the Bombers. Damon Cunningham was spectacular in goal making 42 saves in the loss, many of the stops being highlight reel caliber.

The Hawks have slipped to seventh in the SJHL standings, with the surging Millionaires (winners of four straight) look for their second straight win over the Hawks.

Nipawin put up 45 shots in Melville, but lost 4-2 Jan. 14 at the CN Community Centre. The Hawks have taken two of three over Melville in the season series.

Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Centennial Arena.

Head Coach Tad Kozun spoke with Rob Hart following Wednesday’s loss in Flin Flon.
