Hawks sit four points out after southern road swing

The Hawks collected a pair of points on their southern road swing and now sit four back of the Red Wings after concluded the three games in three days concluded in Weyburn Saturday.

The Hawks began a road trip down south Thursday in Wilcox suffering a 4-3 loss to the Hounds.

On Friday Nipawin was in Estevan and edged the Bruins 5-4 at Affinity Place. The Hawks took both games in Estevan this season, the first time Nipawin has done that since the 2008-09 season.

Alex Bernauer scored his 11th of the season, Chase Visser notch his 10th, Liam McInnis bounced his seventh in from the red line in the second. After 40 the scored was tied 3-3, Nipawin scored twice early in the third courtesy captain Maguire Ratzlaff’s third shorthanded goal of the season, and Jacob Michleson’s third career goal and second game winner.

Tyson Endall made 24 saves in the victory.

Hawks doubled by Red Wings

The Hawks were in Weyburn on Saturday to conclude the road trip against the Red Wings with a chance to return home in a playoff spot, but they lost 4-2.

Nipawin got two powerplay goals in the first period, Finley Radloff picked up his team leading 18th, Eric Hoiness scored his 11th goal of his rookie season.

The black-and-gold fired 43 shots on Dazza Mitchell, Damon Cunningham was solid making 33 stops.

Weyburn will visit the Centennial Arena Wednesday, the Hawks are four points back of eighth, the Red Wings have two games in hand.
