The Hawks blew a two-goal third period lead resulting in a 4-3 shootout loss to Estevan on Saturday.
Rookie defenseman Landon Pappas scored his fourth Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) career goal in the first, Captain Maguire Ratzlaff added his eighth as Nipawin built a 2-0 lead in the first frame.
Estevan cut the lead to 2-1 early in the second period, but Braxtom Buckberger scored his 12th goal making it 3-1 and moving the 2003-born Saskatoon product into a tie with Evan Forrest for the team lead.
The lead wasn’t enough, the Bruins scored twice in the third, forced overtime and won in a shootout.
Damon Cunningham kept his team afloat again making 43 saves in the loss.
The Hawks will meet Melfort next weekend to close the 2023 portion of their schedule.
