Nipawin rallies on road, Hawks split weekend set with North Stars

The Hawks split their weekend home-and-home series with the Battlefords North Stars after a 3-1 victory on the road Saturday.

The win was the Hawks’ first at the Access Communications Centre since Jan. 8, 2020.

Rookie defenseman Ronan Buckberger led the offense with two goals, first-year forward Eric Hoiness scored his third goal of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season and added an assist, that was the Saskatoon product’s second game winning goal of his young career.

Braxton Buckberger chipped in with a pair of assists in the win, and Damon Cunningham was remarkable making 34 saves.

Nipawin will now prepare for a home and home with the Humboldt Broncos starting Friday in Nipawin.

Buckberger spoke about the win and his first career two goal game in North Battleford.
