Hawks upset Mustangs at ‘Cage’ for first win of 2025

The Nipawin Hawks are in the win column in 2025, they also snapped their 11 game losing skid with a spirited 4-1 win over Melfort Saturday.

Carter Anderson scored twice on the powerplay, the 19-year-old Calgary product has a team leading 16 goals on the year. Mason Karakochuk also scored twice including his 10th and 11th tallies of the year.

Gage Roberts was fantastic again in goal for the Hawks, after a stellar 32 save performance in Friday’s loss in Yorkton, the 18-year-old Fort McMurray, Alta. product stopped 27 on route to the win over their rivals.

Nipawin also killed all four penalties they took including a major in the first period.

The Hawks are now off until Feb. 1 when Melville visits the Centennial Arena.

Karakochuk, who will join Ashton Tait and Will Whitter at the SJHL-MJHL Showcase this week in Winnipeg spoke after the game.
