The Hawks got down early Tuesday night giving up a goal 83 seconds into the first period in La Ronge but Will Whitter’s first ever overtime goal sealed Nipawin’s 10th triumph of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.
Mason Karakochuk led the way scoring twice and adding an assist. The second-year Hawk forward has 14 goals on the year. Eric Hoiness added his 10th in the third to tie the game 3-3 before Whitter’s 11th ended the contest at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
Nik Trakakis earned the win in goal, his first in the SJHL in three starts, the 20-year-old made 32 stops the day before his 21st birthday.
