Third period barrage from Broncos leads to loss

Another third period letdown has led to a loss for the Nipawin Hawks, this time against the Humboldt Broncos on Friday at the ‘Cage.’

In the third meeting of the year the Hawks fell behind 2-0 and 3-1, before closing the game to 3-2, but Humboldt scored three goals in the third to put the game out of reach. After the Broncos made the game 2-0 in the second, Finley Radloff cut the lead to 2-1 with his fourth goal od the year and third in Nipawin’s last three games. The Broncos replied shortly after restoring their two goal cushion going to the third period. Chase Visser scored his fourth early in the final period again drawing Nipawin within a goal, but again the Broncos responded, taking a 4-2 lead, and eventually expanding that to 6-2 before Alex Bernauer capped the scoring with his second.

Tyson Endall got his second straight start for an ill Damon Cunningham, Endall made 28 saves in the loss.

The teams will close their season series Saturday back in Humboldt where the Hawks won on Oct. 14 in overtime. Faceoff is 7 p.m. at the Elgar Petersen Arena, the pregame show of Duplex Furniture and Appliances Hawks Hockey on CJVR begins at 6:45 p.m.
