The Nipawin Hawks welcomed the Weyburn Red Wings to the Centennial Arena on Saturday night for Game 5 of their SJHL first-round playoff series, with the matchup tied 2–2.
A season-high crowd of 1,088 fans packed the Cage, bringing energy and support for the black and gold in a pivotal game.
Weyburn capitalized on special teams throughout the night, scoring five power-play goals en route to a 6–1 victory. Goals for the Red Wings came from Burgess, Sale, Pierce, Schraeder, and Redlick on the power play, while McIntyre added the lone even-strength goal.
The Hawks’ lone goal came in the second period on the power play, as #18 Jack Janzen (5) continued his strong postseason, finishing a play set up by #20 Raydr Wallington (1) and #4 Braeden Jockims (1).
Janzen’s goal adds to an impressive playoff run, as he continues to climb among the SJHL’s leading scorers this postseason.
Individually, the Hawks continue to make their mark across the league. Braeden Jockims currently leads the SJHL in faceoff percentage, while Jack Mitchell and Clayton Nesbitt sit among the league’s top five in blocked shots. Noah Derouin, Tiernan Ryan, and Brady Seabrook are also ranked in the top five in hits, highlighting the team’s physical presence throughout the series.
The Hawks now turn their focus to Game 6 in Weyburn.
