Hawks Fall Short in Fast-Paced Battle with Red Wings

The Nipawin Hawks welcomed the Weyburn Red Wings to the Cage on Friday night but came up just short in a hard-fought contest.

The Red Wings opened the scoring early, netting two goals in the first period from Mohan and Schraeder to take control heading into the second. Weyburn added another in the middle frame, with Burgess extending the lead.

The Hawks responded on the power play, as #7 A Eric Hoiness (1) found the back of the net with assists from #17 Brendan Olson (1) and #16 A Mason Karakochuk(1), cutting into the deficit and shifting momentum.

Nipawin continued to push in the third period, and late in the frame, #18 Jack Janzen (1) buried a goal to bring the Hawks within one. Assists on the play went to #34 Konnor Watson (1) and #29 Tiernan Ryan (1).

Despite the late surge, the Red Wings sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Munro.

It was a high-tempo matchup throughout, with the Hawks outshooting the Red Wings 42–32, showcasing a strong offensive effort and relentless pressure. While the result didn’t fall their way, the work ethic and compete level were evident from start to finish.

The Hawks will get another shot at the Red Wings tomorrow night.

Hawks fans, pack the Cage, bring the energy, and let’s rally behind the boys as they look to bounce back.
