The Nipawin Hawks had just one game on the schedule last week, but they made the most of it, delivering an impressive 8–1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers on Friday, October 16, at the Centennial Arena.
The Hawks wasted no time taking control of the game, putting together an explosive six-goal opening period that set the tone for the night.
Captain #16 Karakochuk opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season, assisted by #29 ‘A’ Evans (12) and #24 Mori-Goodman (7). #14 Lowther followed shortly after with his sixth of the season, receiving assists from #28 Makokis (1) and #18 ‘A’ Janzen (8).
Nipawin continued to apply offensive pressure as #24 Mori-Goodman (3) buried his fourth goal of the season, with assists going to #16 ‘C’ Karakochuk and #4 Berger (1). #39 Park added to the lead with his third of the season, assisted by #18 ‘A’ Janzen (9) and goaltender #31 Johnson (1).
The Hawks kept the momentum rolling as #10 ‘A’ Whitter found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, assisted by #13 Wehrens (3). #10 Whitter wasn’t finished there, adding his second of the night and fifth of the season, with assists from #16 ‘A’ Karakochuk (4) and #8 Eggen (4), sending Nipawin into the first intermission with a commanding 6–0 lead.
Yorkton managed to break through in the second period, scoring its lone goal of the night, but the Hawks maintained control heading into the final frame.
#16 ‘C’ Karakochuk struck again in the third period, recording his second goal of the game and 11th of the season, with #29 ‘A’ Evans (13) picking up the assist. #14 Lowther rounded out the scoring on the power play with his seventh goal of the season, assisted by #39 Park (10), sealing the convincing 8–1 victory.
The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into another busy week at the Cage, with two home games on the schedule. Nipawin welcomes the Kindersley Klippers on Tuesday, October 20, followed by the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday, October 23. Puck drop for both games is set for 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to come out, pack the Cage, and cheer on the Hawks as they look to build on their strong home-ice performance.
