2025 Hawks Crop Update: A Promising Season with an Eye on the Sky

July 14- As the Hawks gear up for another exciting season on the ice, the fields that help fuel our program are showing promise — with a little help from Mother Nature and a whole lot of community support.

This year’s wheat crop was planted early and, thanks to good subsoil moisture, managed to hold steady until much-needed rains arrived in late June. The crop is now progressing well, though another timely rain in July would give it an extra boost heading into the home stretch.

To keep the wheat in top condition, Greg Peifer — with support from Bucky and Colby — applied Simplicity and Extinguish herbicides on June 10, both supplied by Corteva. That was followed by an application of Manipulator (a growth inhibitor) on June 24, generously supplied by Belchum.

Meanwhile, the north field, seeded to Meadow Brome grass, is coming along nicely. On June 25, Spencer Staffen treated the brome with Bucktil M (donated by Bayer) and Avant from Lake Country Co-Op.

To wrap up the protection program, the wheat was treated with Soraduo on July 3 — a donation from ADAMA — and applied via aerial spraying by Accumark Airspray.

While the crops are looking strong, another good July rain could make all the difference. If conditions hold, it won’t be long before harvesters hit the fields once again, bringing another successful growing season full circle for the Nipawin Hawks.

Stay tuned, Hawks fans — the crops are growing, and so is our excitement for the 2025–2026 season!
