Special teams ground Hawks in season finale

The Hawks had opportunities to take a lead Friday in their final game of the season, but special teams turned out to be the deciding factor in a 6-1 loss to Humboldt.

Nipawin had five powerplay chances including an almost full length two man advantage in the second period they could not capitalize on. The Broncos were 2/4 on the powerplay and added a shorthanded marker late to put a statement on their third win of the season series.

Nipawin will finish the campaign with a record of 17-33-3-3, they will end in 11th place.

The Hawks had two players suit up in their final game, goaltender Nik Trakakis and three-year defenseman Vito Biondo played his 140th regular season game with the black and gold.

Nipawin will hold their awards banquet Saturday.
