Road Weekend Tough for Hawks, Focus Turns to Home Ice Wednesday

The Nipawin Hawks were on the road this weekend, but it just wasn’t their time as they dropped a pair of games away from home.

On Saturday, the Hawks met the Weyburn Red Wings. Nipawin opened the scoring in the first period when #4 Braedan Jockims (10) found the back of the net with help from #6 Brady Seabrook (11) and #7 ‘A’ Eric Hoiness. The Hawks struck againin the third as #16 ‘A’ Mason Karakochuk (17) added another, assisted by #28 Sean Shiels (11) and #7 Eric Hoiness (32).

Weyburn responded with one goal in the first from Schraeder before adding two more in the second period, with markers from Sale and Schraeder to take control of the game. Despite the loss, shots on goal favoured Nipawin 39–35.

The Hawks then headed to Estevan on Sunday for a matinee matchup against the Bruins. The home side came out strong in the opening frame, scoring three goals, two from Beasley and one from Rennie, to lead after twenty minutes.

Nipawin pushed back in the second period, starting with #4 Braedan Jockims (11) scoring from #7 ‘A’ Eric Hoiness (33) and #16 ‘A’ Mason Karakochuk (23). Captain #11 ‘C’ Finley Radloff (15) followed up with another Hawks goal, assisted by #28 Sean Shiels (12), cutting into the Bruins’ lead.

In the third, the Bruins added two more goals from Rennie, including an empty-netter, to seal the game. Once again, the Hawks edged the shot clock, outshooting the Bruins 38–34.

Nipawin now turns its focus back to home ice. The Hawks return to the Cage on Wednesday night as they welcome the La Ronge Ice Wolves for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
