After first period goals by Carter Anderson who now has 12 on the year, and Jack Janzen’s third, the Hawks had a 2-0 lead on the Mustangs, but a trio of powerplay goals by Melfort in the third period gave the reigning champions a 3-2 win stunning a jam packed Centennial Arena on Friday.
Nathan Claydon made 30 saves in the loss, Kristian Coombs stopped 25 in the win.
The Hawks had their own chances with the man advantage as well going 0/5 in the loss.
The teams meet again on Saturday closing the 2024 calendar portion of the schedule.
Faceoff is 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Lights Palace, the game will be on 750 Beach Radio starting with the pregame show at 7:15 p.m.
