It was a busy and successful weekend for the Nipawin Hawks, who faced the Humboldt Broncos twice while also navigating the SJHL trade deadline on Saturday, January 10.
The weekend began Friday night in Humboldt, where the Hawks earned a hard-fought 2–1 road victory over the Broncos. Humboldt opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Hue. Nipawin responded in the second period when forward #4 Braeden Jockims (3) scored on the power play, assisted by #34 Konnor Watson (11) and #7 ‘A’ Eric Hoiness (19). Later in the period, #28 Sean Shiels (3) gave the Hawks the lead with help from #29 Tiernan Ryan (3) and #18 Jack Janzen (14). The game was tightly contested, with shots on goal nearly even at 38 for Nipawin and 37 for Humboldt.
Saturday marked the SJHL trade deadline, with the Hawks making several roster moves. Nipawin acquired defenseman Mason Eggen, an 06-born product from Brooks, Alberta, from the Kindersley Klippers. In return, Kindersley received the SJHL list rights to 09-born defenseman Cooper Perrin and a 2026 SJHL 2010 third-round draft pick. The Hawks also traded forward Jaxen Smith to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for a 2026 SJHL 2010 second-round draft pick.
The weekend wrapped up Sunday afternoon as the Hawks welcomed the Broncos to The Cage for a matinee matchup. Nipawin opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal from #10 Will Whitter (13), assisted by #11 Captain Finley Radloff (13) and goaltender #31 Colten Scott (1). In the second period, forward #4 Braeden Jockims (4) added his second goal of the weekend with an assist from #21 Ashton Tait (19). The Hawks’ third goal came from #14 Mason Lowther (3), assisted by #10 Will Whitter (14) and #20 Raydr Wallington (8). Humboldt pushed back with two goals in the third period from Penrod and Phillips, but the Hawks held on for the win. Shots on goal favored Nipawin 37–30.
The strong weekend performance moved the Hawks back into third overall in the SJHL standings while maintaining second place in the UPL Division, trailing only the Flin Flon Bombers.
Nipawin returns to home ice next on Tuesday, January 14, when they welcome the Kindersley Klippers to The Cage for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
