Hawks Wrap Up Fall Training Camp with Team White Victory


The Nipawin Hawks capped off their Fall Training Camp tonight with a thrilling Top 40 intersquad matchup, where Team White skated away with a 6-4 win over Team Black.


First Period

Team White opened the scoring with #22 Stabbler (’07) finding the back of the net early. The pace was quick but neither side added to the score before the buzzer, giving White a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes.


Second Period

White extended their advantage as veteran forward #17 Konnor Watson (’06) buried goal #2, followed by #10 Shiels (’07), an AP with the Hawks last season, adding goal #3. Team Black answered back late in the period when #16 Lowther (’07) broke through, making it 3-1 heading into the final frame.


Third Period

The third period turned into a goal-scoring frenzy. Team Black tied things up with back-to-back goals, including #9 Fisher (08), a last season AP,  at 13:54 to make it 3-3.

Team White responded quickly, reclaiming the lead at 16:10 with #12 Ryan (’07) scoring goal #4. Veteran defenseman #4 Raydr Wallington (’06) added goal #5 just minutes later at 17:07.

Team Black kept pushing, cutting the deficit to one with #3 Parsa (’07) scoring at 18:56, but #16 Jack Janzen, a veteran for White, sealed the win at 19:25 with the team’s sixth and final goal.

Head Coach Tad Kozun spoke about wrapping up camp and looking ahead:

“I am really pleased with how our Fall Camp went. The guys came into camp hungry to get the season going. After our game tonight, we are really looking forward to seeing how our exhibition games go and having a great start to our season.”

With camp officially closed, the Hawks now shift focus to their first exhibition game against the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Jim Nelson Sports Complex in Big River First Nation.
