The Nipawin Hawks are pleased to announce the signing of defenseman Chris Newell for the upcoming season.
Newell, an Edmonton, Alberta product, is an 08-born right-shot defenceman who most recently played with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA program. Known for his mobility and puck-moving ability, Newell adds a valuable presence to the Hawks’ blue line.
Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun is looking forward to adding Newell to the defensive core.
“We are excited to add Chris to our d-core for next season,” said Kozun. “He came to our spring camp and showed his ability on the back end with his skating and puck-moving ability. As a right-shot defenceman, it’s something we were looking to add, and he will be a welcomed addition. We welcome Chris and his family to the Hawks organization.”
Newell’s skillset and right-handed shot provide added depth and versatility on the back end as the Hawks continue to build for the 2026–27 season.
