Hawks outscored in Humboldt

The Hawks battled back again Saturday but couldn’t find the equalizer eventually dropping a 7-5 decision to the Broncos.

Mason Karakochuk led the way offensively scoring twice, his seventh and eighth of the year, while Noah Derouin scored his first career goal and Henry Smith added his first of the year, the Hawks first shorthanded marker of the season.

Nipawin’s powerplay continued to click scoring twice in five chances, the Hawks killed four of five penalties they took.

Gage Roberts started in goal, the 18-year-old Fort McMurray, Alta. product allowed four goals on 29 shots, Nathan Claydon made 23 saves allowing one in relief.

Nipawin caps the week picking up three points of a possible six against three top ranked clubs. Next up is a trip to La Ronge to meet the Ice Wolves on Tuesday.
