The Nipawin Hawks defended home ice Friday night, skating to a 3–1 victory over the Estevan Bruins at the Centennial Arena.
The Hawks came out strong in the first period. Assistant Captain Mason Karakochuk opened the scoring early, finishing off a play set up by Konnor Watson and Justus Cutler. Minutes later, Will Whitter doubled the lead, capitalizing on feeds from Jack Mitchell and Jack Janzen.
In the second period, Ryan added to the Hawks’ cushion with his first SJHL goal, finding the back of the net with assists from Van Taylor and Derouin. The Bruins managed one goal on the night from Cash Olson, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
Both teams generated plenty of chances, with Estevan putting 29 shots on goal and Nipawin firing back with 27. Goaltender Gage Roberts was steady between the pipes, turning aside 28 shots and keeping the Bruins at bay throughout key stretches.
The Hawks’ defensive core also stood tall, blocking shots, winning puck battles, and shutting down several dangerous Estevan rushes to preserve the lead.
With the 3–1 win, the Hawks continue to build momentum at the Cage and show they can win games with a mix of scoring depth, defensive grit, and strong goaltending.
The Hawks next game is Tuesday October 7 at The Cage as the Hawks take on La Ronge, puck drop 7 PM.
