Hawks fall in finale versus Mustangs

The Hawks scored their fastest goal to open a game (unofficially) in history just six seconds into Friday’s game in Melfort against the Mustangs but the reigning champs were too much in the end winning 5-2.

Mason Karakochuk took a turnover just inside the Melfort blueline off the opening draw and wristed his 19th goal of the year past Madden Mulawka. They 18-year-old scored in the second giving Nipawin another one goal lead after the Mustangs tied the score 1-1.

The Hawks held the lead until the third, but Melfort’s top guns scored four times in the third securing the win in the season series finale.

Nipawin will host Flin Flon Tuesday before wrapping up the season at home Friday against Humboldt.
