The Nipawin Hawks picked up an important road win tonight, defeating the Melville Millionaires 3–2 in a closely contested matchup.
Nipawin opened the scoring with Mason Karakochuk’s first of the season, finishing off a breakaway pass from Wallington. In the second period, Will Whitter added his first of the year, assisted by Mason Lowther, to make it 2–2 after 40 minutes of play.
The game-winner came in the third period when Van Taylor scored his first goal of the season, set up by Derouin and Carter Anderson.
For Melville, Brendan Olson provided both of their goals, keeping the game tight until the final buzzer.
Final shots on goal favored Melville 37–27, but the Hawks capitalized on key opportunities to secure the win.
The Hawks now turn their attention back home, where they will host the Estevan Bruins at The Cage on Friday, October 3rd, with puck drop at 7:00 PM. Fans are encouraged to come out and pack the rink as Nipawin looks to keep momentum rolling.
