The Nipawin Hawks opened Parent & Billet Weekend with a strong, disciplined performance, securing a shutout win over the Melfort Mustangs in the first game of their double-header series.
In the first period, the Hawks struck early with a goal from #10 Will Whitter (7), assisted by #5 Jack Mitchell (3) and captain #11 Finley Radloff (5). The team kept the pressure on into the second, where newly added forward #17 Brendan Olson (6) scored his first as a Hawk, unassisted, to extend the lead.
The Hawks added one more insurance marker in the third period. Assistant captain #13 Carter Anderson (3) found the back of the net, with assists credited to #17 Brendan Olson (3) and #10 Will Whitter (8).
Defensively, Nipawin delivered a complete effort, highlighted by a shutout performance from goaltender #1 Gage Roberts, who stood tall all night and backstopped the team to victory.
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow at the Cage for a 7 p.m. puck drop as they take on the Battleford North Stars.
