Hawks Down North Stars, Move Into Third Overall

The Nipawin Hawks welcomed the Battlefords North Stars to the Cage on home ice and delivered a strong full-team performance, skating to an impressive victory in front of their fans.

Nipawin opened the scoring in the first period as SEGU MVP and SJHL Player of the Week #16 Assistant Captain Mason Karakochuk (15) found the back of the net with assists from #20 Radyr Wallington (17) and #6 Brady Seabrook (10).

The Hawks extended their lead in the second frame. #4 Braedan Jockims (8) struck first with help from #34 Konnor Watson (14). Shortly after, #11 Captain Finley Radloff (14) capitalized on the power play, with assists going to #10 Will Whitter (22) and #3 Hudson Gainer (7). Nipawin continued to press, and #4 Braedan Jockims (9) added his second of the night unassisted to close out the period. Battlefords recorded their lone goal of the game in the second period from Williamson.

In the third, the Hawks continued to control play. #6 Brady Seabrook (3) opened the frame with a goal assisted by #18 Jack Janzen (17) and #17 Brendan Olson (17). Shortly after, #16 Assistant Captain Mason Karakochuk (16) scored his second of the night, with #3 Hudson Gainer (8) picking up the assist.

It was a complete 60-minute effort from Nipawin, with all lines contributing and solid goaltending from Roberts. Shots on goal favoured the Hawks 40–29.

The win moves Nipawin into third place overall in the SJHL standings. The Hawks now head out on the road for a busy weekend, travelling to Weyburn on Saturday and Estevan on Sunday. Nipawin returns to home ice on Wednesday, February 18 when the La Ronge Ice Wolves visit the Cage.
