The Nipawin Hawks evened their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) preseason record to one win and a loss after a 4-2 win over Melfort Wednesday at the Centennial Arena.
In the club’s exhibition opener on Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Mustangs doubled the Hawks 4-2, but in the rematch a night later at the ‘Cage’ Nipawin dressed an older lineup and took the victory.
Jack Janzen led the way offensively with two goals, Mark Lafleur and Adrien Fox also hit the scoresheet in the win.
Tyson Endall and Corben Schnurr split the goaltending duties, each gave up a goal, Endall made 13 stops, Schnurr turned aside 22 of 23.
Melfort had seven powerplays and were scoreless, Fox’s goal came while the Hawks were shorthanded. Nipawin had one powerplay chance.
The Hawks travel to La Ronge Friday to face the Ice Wolves, on Saturday Nipawin will host La Ronge in Big River, Sask. at the Jim Nielson Sports Complex. Faceoff is 5 p.m.
