Hawks bounce back and earn point vs. Mustangs

The Hawks were much better on home ice Saturday in their rematch with Melfort to conclude a home-and-home weekend series with their archrivals falling 2-1 in a shootout.

Coming off a 6-0 loss in Melfort, the Mustangs started with the lead again on the road but the Hawks tightened up in their own zone, got a powerplay goal from Conor Ryan, his sixth goal of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, and 28 saves from Gage Roberts in the loss, their second in a shootout versus Melfort this year.

Nipawin and Roberts held the Mustangs vaunted powerplay off the scoresheet and scored on one of three chances against the SJHL’s top penalty killing team as well.

The Hawks are back in action Tuesday on the road in La Ronge. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
