Hawks acquire forward from Calgary

The Nipawin Hawks have acquired 2006 born forward Jack Schierau from the Calgary Canucks in exchange for the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rights to Landon Pappas who is currently playing for the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League. (BCHL).

Schierau, 18, has suited up in 22 games this year in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Canucks, the reigning AJHL champions. Schierau has a goal and three assists so far in his rookie junior campaign. Schierau was recruited by Calgary out of the Vancouver NE Chiefs U18 AAA program where he was the captain last year while adding 32 points in 17 games including six goals. The Port Moody, British Columbia product also played nine playoff games last year scoring five more goals and adding 13 points. Nipawin General Manager Tad Kozun is excited about the acquisition.

“Jack comes with a lot of praise from his coaching staff, and former teammates including Nathan Claydon, one of our goalies. He was the leader of a very good under-18 program and has a high ceiling. Jack likes to move the puck and get it to shooters, so he will help our powerplay and be key contributor for us as we continue to build the Hawks back into a proverbial contender in the SJHL,” Kozun said.

Schierau has been involved in the NE Chiefs system since elevating to AAA under-15 in 2020-21.

He is expected to be in the lineup Friday when the Hawks travel to La Ronge to meet the Ice Wolves wearing number 17.
