Bernauer commits to Red Deer Kings

Graduated Hawks forward Alex Bernauer will play collegiate hockey in Alberta.

Bernauer, 21, will join the two-time Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Red Deer Kings next year.

Nipawin acquired the Saskatoon product’s Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rights partway through last season. Bernauer suited up in 41 games registering 12 goals and 22 assists. In his junior career split between the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, and the El Paso Rhinos of the North American Hockey League Bnernauer compiled 110 points.

Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun said he’s happy to see Bernauer commit to the next level.

“We brought Alex in last year to conclude his career with us,” Kozun said. “He was as advertised in a Hawks uniform and I expect the same will be said for Alex with the Kings, a great player and person going to a solid organization in Red Deer.”
